Safeguarding
I teach children in their own homes. These are the rules I work by.
- Enhanced DBS. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, and I’m happy to show it.
- An adult at home. For students under 18, a parent or another responsible adult is at home during the lesson.
- Messages go through parents. I arrange lessons with parents, not children. I don’t follow or message students under 18 on social media.
- Photos and videos. I never take photos or videos of students on my own phone. Practice videos recorded in a lesson go on the family’s phone, and the videos I send show only me demonstrating.
- Hands-on help. Sometimes it helps to adjust a hand position. I always ask first and explain why, and a student can always say no.
- Online lessons. For students under 18, I send the Google Meet link to a parent, the lesson happens in a shared room at home, and nothing is recorded without consent.
If you’re worried about a child
- If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
- If you’re worried about a child’s safety, call the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000, or contact your local council’s children’s services.
- If your concern is about me, contact your local council’s children’s services and ask for the LADO (Local Authority Designated Officer), who handles concerns about adults who work with children.
- Children and young people can talk to Childline, free, on 0800 1111.
